Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central the only Senator elected on the platform the Labour Party on Tuesday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senator announced his intentions to leave Labour party for the ruling on the floor of the red chamber of during plenary through order 43 of the Senate rules

He links his defection to the leadership crisis in the labour and claimed that the move is supported by the people of his constituency that he represented. “Being a person whose election to the house was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that house was elected; Provided that his membership of the latter political party is not as a result of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member or of a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored‎”

In his reaction, the Senate President Bukola Saraki said he came under order 43 which personal explanation there is no further discussion on the matter.

Omo-Agege’s defection brings the total number of APC senators to 66 while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party has a total of 42 senators.
