Lawmakers of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have impeached the Deputy Governor of the state, Mahdi Gusau.
The decision to impeached Gusau was reached during Wednesday’s plenary.
This was sequel to a report submitted by the committee set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to investigate Gusau.
The seven-member Committee set up to investigate the alleged impeachable offences against the deputy governor was chaired by Retired Justice Halidu Soba.
Among the allegations levelled against the deputy governor were breach of the Constitution, gross misconduct, financial fraud, and abuse of office.
Following debates, the House unanimously agreed to impeach the deputy governor.
The development came despite alarm raised by the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter of the state.
The opposition party had warned Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, and the state assembly against impeaching Gusau, who has rejected all entreaties to make him defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with his principal.
It would be recalled, on June 29 2021, Matawalle officially dumped the PDP for APC in Zamfara.
