President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the occasion of his 68th birthday, describing him as a true statesman whose actions have strengthened Nigeria’s democratic journey.

In a congratulatory statement released on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu lauded Jonathan’s leadership style, focusing particularly on his conduct during the 2015 presidential election.

“President Tinubu notes the simplicity and humility that define Dr Jonathan’s style of leadership, particularly his demonstration of statesmanship during the 2015 presidential election, which strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and gave the nation a pride of place,” the statement read.

Tinubu also recounted his past engagements with Jonathan, acknowledging the support and counsel that, according to him, contributed to Jonathan’s political rise, especially in 2010 and ahead of the 2011 presidential election.

“President Tinubu believes Dr Jonathan’s statesmanship has continued to inspire many leaders, even as he takes up challenging international diplomatic responsibilities, particularly in promoting democratic culture and values in Africa,” the statement added.

Tinubu prayed for continued good health and well-being for Jonathan, his wife, Mrs Patience, and their family.
