President Bola Tinubu on Thursday cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to prioritize peace for the benefit of the nation, as they are not the only voice of Nigeria.

The Statement was made during the inauguration of the Lagos Red Line rail project on today, February 29 and comes on the heel of the Labour union’s recent nationwide Protest on account of the widespread hardship in the country.

Directing a slight jab at the NLC, Tinubu said that the union should realise it is not the only one with rights, and if the NLC wants to be involved in the electoral process, it should prepare for the polls come 2027. According to the president, the labour union cannot fight a government that has stayed in office for only nine months.

“Allow me to throw a jab here. The Labour Union should understand that you’re not the only one with freedom & rights. If you want to participate in the electoral process, meet us in 2027. If not, maintain peace. You are not the only voice of Nigeria” he said

Earlier in the week, the NLC, alongside other affiliated unions, staged protests concerning issues such as rising living costs, inflation, insecurity, an other issues facing Nigerians. Initially set for two days, the Protest was halted after the first day, as the NLC stated that it made significant achievements already through the demonstrations.

While he addressed the events that transpired, Tinubu assured that the nation has brighter days ahead, despite the present economic challenges. He also calls for more perseverance and hardwork from Nigerians to navigate the challenges
