Former United States president Barack Obama has declared his open endorsement of his fellow Democrat Kamala Harris in her bid to emerge as the next president of the country.

The former president who took to his official X handle said he is confident that Harris would be a good president.

He also vowed to work with Harris to defeat Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump in November’s presidential election.

Obama tweeted: “Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support.

“At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us.”

The New Diplomat reports that Obama is the latest political heavyweight to endorse Harris as she has already received the backing of President Joe Biden.

Harris, 59, is hoping to become the US’ first Black woman.
