In another blow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Waziri, a founding member and Board of Trustees (BoT) member, has officially resigned and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The defection was announced on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to insiders, this might alter significant political calculations in Yobe State.

Waziri, a former Minister of Police Affairs and a key figure in the PDP’s formation, cited the party’s loss of credibility as the driving force behind his exit.

Describing his decision as “difficult but necessary,” he expressed frustration with the current PDP leadership, stating it no longer aligns with the vision of a credible opposition party.

He also said the move was in line with the PDP constitution, which requires formal resignation at the ward level.

“I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” he said.

He urged his followers to join him in supporting a new political movement that can strengthen democracy and ensure better governance.

In response, PDP Ward Chairman Malam Muhammad Bomai, who represented the local leadership, accepted Waziri’s resignation with regret, calling him a pillar of the party.

“Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” he said.

Bomai also announced his resignation from the PDP and immediate defection to ADC, saying he shares Waziri’s vision for a better Nigeria.

This comes after the opposition coalition recently adopted ADC as the platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The party has already attracted prominent figures from various parties, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

Also, the party has appointed former President of the Senate, David Mark, as its interim National Chairman, while the former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was appointed the interim National Secretary.
