- Makes History As Thai’s Youngest PM
By Abiola Olawale
In a historic moment, Paetongtarn Shinawatra was sworn in as the prime minister of Thailand on Friday.
She officially becomes Thailand’s youngest prime minister. She is 38 years old.
This comes after a month of political turmoil that saw her predecessor eased out of office and the main opposition party dissolved.
The New Diplomat reports that Paetongtarn, a daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, took the oath of office in a closed-door ceremony with King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Paetongtarn replaces Srettha Thavisin from her Pheu Thai party after the kingdom’s Constitutional Court sacked him in mid-August for appointing a cabinet minister with a criminal conviction.
