The Nigeria U-20 Women’s National Team defied a bad weather to kick-start their Group C game at the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Friday morning on a winning note by defeating France 0-1 at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, San José.

Flourish Chioma Sebastine 85th minute strike was enough to settle the tie between the Falconets and the French women’s team.

She received a through pass from Mercy Idoko inside the France penalty area, sending a well- placed low shot past French Goalkeeper Petiteau.

France had scored earlier before the Nigeria’s goal, but had the goal chalked-off after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Check.

As the game progressed, it was clear that the Falconets and France could not continue playing under terrible weather conditions.

The match officials then decided to stop the game as players from both teams rushed to the dressing room.

The officials decided to postpone the game for one hour as the game was suspended 20 minutes after kick off.

The sky became clearer and the game was able to continue after an hour following an inspection by the match officials.

Their next up game will be against South Korea on Sunday, August 14 2022.
