  • RSEIC To Unveil Timetable For LG Elections July 1

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission has issued invitations to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other political parties in anticipation of the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The electoral body of Rivers State also invited security agencies, religious leaders, other stakeholders to a meeting scheduled to hold on July 1, 2024.

This was contained in a press release issued on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 and signed by the Chairman of the RSEIC, Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebell.

In the press release, PDP, APC and other parties and as well stakeholders in the state are billed to discuss the guidelines for the 2024 Local Government elections.

The release reads in part: “The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebell, DSSRS, (Rtd) hereby invites:

– Leaders of all registered political parties
– Traditional Rulers
– Security Agencies
– Religious Organisation
– The Media
– Professional Organisation
– Civil Society Groups
– Non-governmental Organisation
– Community Based Group and the
– Electorate
to a general stakeholders meeting on Monday 1st July, 2024 at the RSEIC Headquarters, 239-243 Aba Road, Port Harcourt by 10.00am prompt.

“The highlight of the meeting will be the unveiling of the timetable and guidelines for the 2024 Local Government Elections in the state.

“All concerned should be seated at the RSEIC Auditorium by 09.45am, please.”

The New Diplomat reports that in the early hours of Tuesday, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State instructed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to immediately assume control of the 23 council areas in the state following the expiration of the three-year tenure of the former elected local government officials.

Subsequently, Fubara swore in the new caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government areas of the state.

The inauguration came after the Rivers State House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo had screened and confirmed the nominees.
