The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has officially validated Edison Ehie as the legitimate speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Edison Ehie is among the four legislators within Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s faction.
In the aftermath of the turmoil at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ehie faced the consequences as he was suspended and ousted from his position as the leader of the House by his colleagues.
Martin Amaewhule and Dumle Maol have been prohibited by the court from assuming any official roles or causing disruptions to the operations of Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, who serves as the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The court further cautioned against employing hooligans and law enforcement personnel to forcefully enter the Assembly Complex.
It would be recalled on Monday, 27 lawmakers in the state defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are said to be loyalists to the former Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
