Executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 5, Ikuru town, Andoni Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State have announced the suspension of the embattled National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.
The decision was reached at a meeting with held at the party’s secretariat in Ikuru town, Andoni LGA.
Announcing the development, the Ward Chairman, George Christopher, disclosed that the suspension of Secondus was endorsed by eleven out of 17 executive members of the ward.
Christopher cited bad leadership as the reason for the action. According to him, the national chairman has failed to attract development to the area despite his high political profile.
In his words: “The Ward executive of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ward 5, Ikuru town, and the leaders met on the 31st of August, 2021 on issues that affect the party.
“Suspension of Prince Uche Secondus was done by the Ward executive after a duly constituted Ward meeting called by the Secretary on the instructions of the Chairman, according to the Constitution of our great party.”
Also speaking, Chairman, Disciplinary Committee in the Ward, Benson Alpheous, urged Secondus to comply with the decision of the executive.
“Until further notice, our brother, Prince Uche Secondus remains suspended. I want to thank you for coming and again, reaffirm the suspension of Uche Secundus.
“For now, until you hear from us again, Prince Uche Secondus remain suspended,” Alpheous stated.
This development is coming amid the reported acrimonious relationship between the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike and Secondus and also a reflection of the leadership crisis in the PDP as two courts; a Cross River High Court and Rivers State High Court had granted an order restraining Secondus from parading himself as the PDP national chairman.
