Legal Counsel to Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has stated the conditions behind his client release from the Beninoise detention.

A statement issued by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Yomi Alliyu, on Monday, in Cotonou, said Igboho was released on medical grounds.

According to Alliyu, Igboho is not permitted to leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.

In his words, “I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Igboho, has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit: Prof. Wole Soyinka and Prof. Akintoye for this turn around in our client’s matter,” he said.

The umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide had in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, confirmed that the activist was released to its leader, Prof. Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert, Wale Adeniran.

“Akintoye described the release of Ighoho as a triumph of truth over darkness in Yorubaland.” The statement added.

Recall that the 48-year-old activist and his wife were arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.
