*To Observe Eid Prayers With Family At Home

President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that he will not receive homages from citizens as part of celebration for this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

While noting that visitors will not be welcomed at the villa, he said he will observe the Eid prayers with family at home.

This was revealed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Friday.

Shehu said the decision by the President to pray at home was in observance of the lockdown measures in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, put in place “to save lives and protect people from all dangers.”

He said it was also in line with the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, suspending Eid congregational prayers across the country as well as the protocol against mass gathering issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

Further to this, Shehu said the President, who has traditionally shared the joyous moment with top government officials, political leaders, community heads, Muslim and Christian religious leaders and children, will not be receiving these homages in a bid to stop the coronavirus from further spreading.
