A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed concerns that the party would collapse following the recent wave of defections.

This is as George asserted that the defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, among many others won’t affect the PDP.

According to him, the PDP has withstood several storms and remains standing “strong”.

He added that the party’s resilience far outweighs the loss of any single governor.

George made this known while speaking during an interview with Channels TV.

“I never saw it at any time,” George said. “In fact, when Anyanwu was brought back as secretary to complete his assignment, he (Mbah) asked his people not to attend meetings.”

“People come and go,” he said. “The PDP has faced worse storms and survived. We are restructuring, and we will come out stronger.”

George’s reaction followed Mbah’s official announcement on Tuesday confirming his defection from the PDP to the APC.

The development meant PDP won’t be controlling Enugu State for the first time since 1999.

Mbah justified his defection by citing what he called “years of neglect” and “systemic disregard” of the South-East by the PDP leadership.

“For decades, the South-East — especially Enugu — stood firmly behind the PDP, showing loyalty that shaped the party’s success,” Mbah said. “Yet despite this history, our voices were too often disregarded when it mattered most. It has therefore become necessary to seek affiliation where our interests as a region are represented in fair partnership.”
