Recall that the PDP candidate in Lagos East Senatorial bye-election, Gbadamosi polled 11,257 votes, losing to Mr Tokunbo Abiru of the APC who won by a total of 89,204 votes in the December 5 election according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement titled: ‘The Time To Re-Think Lagos’, signed by Hassan, who is also the president of Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW), he condemned the infighting within the party that led to the decision by some executive members to publish the resignation of the State Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty in order to discredit him.
Hassan urged them to retrace their steps and collectively seek ways to move the PDP forward in the state and not allow personal interests to determine their actions.
The statement read: “it is most pertinent to lend my voice on the recent happenings within the Lagos PDP affairs, being a committed member and an Aspirant for Lagos East Senatorial Bye-Election, wherein something urgent is needed to be done to collectively salvage the party from its imminent total collapse.
“I have raised my opinions at various points in time to correct the growing internal ills and rifts, but this time around, things have grossly fallen apart, unfortunately the center is loosely open for mass intrusions of enemies to take a vantage position that will definitely nail the party’s coffin in Lagos State.
“Most worrisome is that everyone seems to take sides not reminding themselves that this is a pure family affairs, yet some state exco members went out to publish the resignation of the State Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty without minding consequences of this ill advised moves.
“Most regrettably is the position maintained by the State Legal, whose duty is to call for mediation and reconciliation, but decided to join the affrays.
“We are aware that bye elections was preplanned to fail, no thanks to the handy works of the approach of party leaders, lack of commitment by the elected members at the state and national assembly, the candidate BOG’s unilateral management of the whole process cost us our woeful outing.
“Winning is collective interest, I could remember the positive roles and advice the State Chairman played calling on me to assist our candidate on visitation to all our traditional institutions and some key stakeholders within Lagos East, which I obliged, without leaving no stone unturned, only for me to be begging for attention from BOG.
“Despite releasing my manifestos agenda and campaign office to add up towards his success, no communication or appreciation, but we were alienated.
“I would like to advise the party leadership of Engr. Deji Doherty to call all stakeholders summit on the need to chart a way forward on the progress and development of the Lagos PDP.
“I equally call on the Chairman to pardon and reverse the earlier suspension of the Secretary and others, while urging Barr. Gani Taofeek to sheath his sword and bury hatchets soon, the party need to purge itself of indescribable attrition and squabbles we read daily, rather than concentrate on the next agenda of how to salvage Lagos.
“I implore all party members to remain focus, our time to Re-Think Lagos is now.”
