Millions of football fans across the African continent will miss the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on their favourite sporting channel, SuperSport.

Multichoice, owners of Digital Satellite Television( DStv) on Wednesday stated that the AFCON tournament will not be broadcast on SuperSport “because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.”

Further according to DStv: “However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.

“Multichoice Africa remains committed to ensuring football fans across Africa continue to enjoy unrivaled access to entertainment and football games available on DStv and GOtv platforms including, the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Zambian Super League and many more of football’s most prestigious competitions.”

The football fiesta kicks off January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Black Stars of Ghana, the Pharaohs of Egypt, and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire are considered as favorites in the tournament.

However, the defending champions, the Teranga Lions of Senegal, are determined to hold onto their title.

Notably, some of Africa’s finest players will be representing their countries. Victor Osimhen, the talented striker who plays for Napoli, will be playing for Nigeria. Mohamed Salah, the renowned Liverpool star, will be showcasing his skills for Egypt. Additionally, Sadio Mané, the skilled striker who plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, will be representing his country as well among others.
