International governing body of football organisation, FIFA, on Monday announced its decision to slam a fine worth CHF150,000 (N63.9m) on Nigeria over incident of crowd disorder during a World Cup qualifier match that was played in the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on March 29.

The international organisation cited pitch invasion, as well as failure on the part of the Nigerian authorities to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, as the reason for the sanctions.

FIFA added that the fine is part of several other sanctions issued worldwide on Monday after studying dozens of cases from World Cup qualifying games played since the start of the year.

The violence, according to FIFA, breached Article 16 of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

With the development, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will also play their next international match behind closed doors.

FIFA, however, gave room for appeal.

Recall hundreds of angry Nigerian fans invaded the Moshood Abiola National stadium pitch following the failure of the Super Eagles to clinch a spot in the 2022 World Cup. After the blast of the whistle, the fans rushed out of the stands, pushing over dugouts and advertising boards.

The angry fans, in a viral video were sighted destroying several facilties in the stadium.
