Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has revealed why he failed to inform his former principal, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, before dumping the opposition party.

Obi who made this revelation while speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels TV political programme, monitored by The New Diplomat, said he concealed his move away from PDP from Atiku and even his family members so that he would not to be talked out of making the decision.

He explained that he felt a need to leave PDP to achieve his aspirations for Nigeria. But telling Atiku would have prevented him from implementing the decision.

In his words, “Yes, it’s true. Let me tell you, Atiku remains my respected elder brother. When I left the PDP I did not tell him (Atiku) and other respected people in my life including my family. There is time in your life that you take a decision which you consider appropriate for your own future that you just have to do it because you don’t want people to talk you out of it.

“And this I did to the best interest of my future and the best interest of Nigeria. Recall that when I left PDP, I did say that I would rather do right thing and fail then do the wrong thing and succeed. And that was what I did. I took that decision with consideration that it does not in any way inconvenient or affect any other person expect me.

“Respectfully after one or two days of taking that decision, I informed Atiku in a written message saying I had to go because of the circumstances and what I think is appropriate to do. And, knowing him he respected my decision.”
