Argentina has announced its intention to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO), following a similar move by the United States under President Donald Trump.

This comes as Argentine President Javier Milei has ordered the country’s withdrawal from the WHO, citing “profound differences” in health management, particularly related to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manuel Adorni, the spokesman of Milei spoke during a press conference on Wednesday as the government of Argentina is not happy with the international intervention in national health policies and WHO’s management during health crises.

He stated: “President Javier Milei has instructed Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein to withdraw Argentina from the WHO.

“We Argentines will not allow an international organisation to interfere with our sovereignty and certainly not with our health.”

The decision comes two weeks after Donald Trump announced on the first day of his second term that the US would pull out of the UN health body.
