Mr Sunday Dare, The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has commended Team Nigeria representatives at the 2022 Commonwealth Games following their exceptional performance at the event.

The Minister, received the team at a brief reception held at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Wednesday, August 9 2022.

At the brief reception held at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, the Sports Minister represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, thanked the athletes for representing and making Nigeria proud at the Birmingham Games.

He assured the athletes that a bigger reception will be held for them when all other members of the Team Nigeria to the Games return home.

“I would like to thank Almighty God for making it possible for you to return back home safely. We thank Mr President for making it possible for us to participate at the Commonwealth Games, we are very happy and on behalf of the Minister and the entire staff of the Ministry.”

At the end of the 11-day Commonwealth Games, Team Nigeria amassed a total of 12 Gold, 9 Silver and 14 Bronze Medals, bringing the numbers to a total of 35 medals.

Recall the Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu, has announced that his company would give cash rewards to all Team Nigeria medallists at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Tinubu said his company would match whatever cash reward was already in place for the athletes by the sports ministry.

This implies that gold medal winners will get another $5,000, silver medal winners, $3,000 and bronze medal winners, $2,500 from the energy solution providers.
