Seven months after the tragic demise of the late Group Managing Director of Access Holdings, Dr Herbet Wigwe, a contentious conflict has arisen within the family over the sharing of his wealth and assets.
Passing away in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9, 2024, allegations of potential impropriety surrounding the administration of his will have surfaced, sparking a tumultuous battle over the distribution of his extensive properties.
Reports emerging suggested that the contentious issues revolve around the distribution of Wigwe’s substantial assets, including his shares in Access Holdings, properties in multiple countries, and various investments. Family members are also contesting the appointment of trustees and beneficiaries which the late Wigwe reportedly outlined in the will, further complicating the already fraught situation.
According to the reports, Wigwe’s parents have reportedly filed a caveat at the Probate Registry.
Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, Herbert’s father is challenging the distribution of the estate as outlined in his son’s will. The caveat was reportedly supported by an affidavit from Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, who claims to be Herbert’s cousin.
In the caveat, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe is requesting that 20% of Herbert’s estate be allocated to him and other family members, a move that seems to contradict what the late Herbert Wigwe indicated in his will.
It was gathered that Herbert Wigwe’s will explicitly states that estate wealth should be distributed solely among his children.
According to checks, this development has sparked deep concerns among observers, with many accusing Wigwe’s family of displaying a sense of entitlement rather than the expected mourning following a significant loss.
It would be recalled that Herbet Wigwe died along with his wife, Chizoba, their son, Chizi, a former Chairman of Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the pilot and co-pilot, in a Di Airbus Helicopter EC 130B4 with registration number N130CZ, near Halloran Springs, California, on February 9.
He was buried in his Omueke hometown in Isiokpo, Rivers State, alongside his wife and son, Chizoba and Chizi, on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
