The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has weighed in on the quality of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supplied by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
This is as PETROAN threw its weight behind NNPCL saying its petroleum meets the highest industry standards.
PETROAN’s position is contained in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Joseph Obele, on Sunday.
According to the statement, Obele said the association conducted a rigorous test on NNPCās petroleum products after claims in a viral video emerged that the PMS, also known as petrol, sold by MRS Oil lasts longer than that of NNPC.
Recall that on Saturday, NNPC denied the claims made in the video, which said the petrol from MRS Oil was refined by the Dangote refinery.
NNPC said the assertion that Dangote refineryās PMS lasts longer is misleading.
Obele said PETROAN, as part of its oversight function in the Nigerian petroleum industry, engaged independent standard laboratories to test and verify the quality of petroleum products before lifting them from any depot or refinery.
āOur comprehensive tests include flash point, density, viscosity, sulfur content, water content, and ash content tests,ā the associationās spokesperson said.
āThe results of these tests are satisfactory, demonstrating that NNPCLās petroleum products meet and exceed the required industry standards.
āSpecifically: Flash point test: exceeds minimum requirement, indicating low risk of ignition.
āDensity test: meets prescribed density standards, ensuring optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.
āViscosity test: falls within acceptable range, ensuring smooth engine operation and minimizing wear and tear.
āSulfur content test: meets regulatory limits, reducing risk of engine corrosion and environmental pollution.
āWater content test: well below maximum allowable limit, ensuring fuel stability and preventing engine problems.
āAsh content test: meets regulatory limits, reducing risk of engine wear and tear.
āWe are confident in the quality of petroleum products supplied by NNPCL, which adheres to strict industry standards.ā
Obele also asked the public to disregard fabricated content and instead rely on verified sources for accurate information.
