In a strange development, violence broke out at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro located in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, after patients with mental health challenges protested what they described as the ‘poor treatments’.

The angry patients lamented the alleged poor treatment they were subjected to by the management of the facility.

According to reports, a psychiatric doctor, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, and three nurses narrowly escaped from the hospital during the violent protest.

The doctor was reported to have suffered multiple tooth bites during the protest.

The violent protest took the staff of the health facility by surprise as it lasted for over two hours.

Normalcy was restored after the police operatives from the Lafenwa Divisional Headquarters intervened and brought the situation under control.

Some of the relatives of the patients who spoke with the press said their relatives were poorly fed and kept in an unclean environment.

They also lamented the absence of alternative electricity supply, anytime the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, cuts power supply.

A female relative of one of the patients, who pleaded anonymity, said the least amount being paid by each of the patients ranges from N500,000 to N700,000.

The relative said they are not getting value for their money.
