  • List Qualities of Next Governor

By Abiola Olawale

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that he would tell the people of the state his preferred successor in January 2026.

Makinde made this known on Monday during the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture, which took place at the government house arcade in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The lecture titled ‘Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspective’, was delivered by Yunus Olushina Teliat, grand chief Imam of Ogbomoland.

In his address delivered largely in Yoruba, Makinde said he is aware that speculations and discussions are emerging on who would succeed him in 2027 after finishing his administration as the Governor.

Makinde said he is not a “lame duck” and is aware that some individuals are considering pursuing “other ventures” as his time in office gradually draws to a close.

Addressing Abbas Oloko, a popular socialite, Makinde jokingly said his billboard at the Isale Alfa area of the state should not be removed.

The Oyo governor said in January 2026, the picture of his preferred successor will be emblazoned on the billboard.

He declared: “I’m not yet a lame duck. Please leave my billboard at Isale Alfa.
“In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there.”
