French President Emmanuel Macron has firmly denied rumours of a dispute with his wife, Brigitte Macron, labelling the speculation as “just joking” and attributing it to a deliberate disinformation campaign.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, May 26, 2025, Macron addressed the swirling rumours head-on, emphasizing the strength of their relationship and condemning what he called “malicious attempts to sow division.”

The rumours escalated after a video went viral on social media. In a viral video, Brigitte, the wife of President Macron, was seen appearing to push her hand towards her husband’s face following their arrival in Vietnam.

However, addressing the rumours, Macron stated: “My wife and I were squabbling, we were rather joking, and I was taken by surprise.

“Now it’s become a kind of planetary catastrophe, and some are even coming up with theories.”

Macron also referred to the other incidents, including the images shot on a train while on the way to Kyiv where some individuals claimed he shared cocaine with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

“For three weeks… some people have watched videos and think I shared a bag of cocaine, that I had a fight with the Turkish president, and that now I’m having a domestic dispute with my wife.

“None of these are true. Everyone needs to calm down,” he added.
