A viral video of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, vibing to Rema’s chart-topping track Woman has set social media ablaze.
In the video making rounds on social media, Obasa was captured grooving to the Afrobeat hit at a recent Lagos event.
This moment of levity follows a high-stakes political struggle to reclaim his position as Speaker, showcasing Obasa’s knack for staying in the public eye amid a turbulent career.
Obasa, a sixth-term lawmaker representing Agege Constituency I, has been a towering figure in Lagos politics.
His tenure as Speaker, however, faced a challenge in January 2025, when 36 lawmakers impeached him over allegations of financial misconduct.
Mojisola Meranda’s historic election as the first female Speaker followed, plunging the Assembly into a 49-day crisis.
However, Obasa, undeterred, rejected the impeachment, arguing it violated due process.
On February 27, 2025, he stormed back to the Assembly with security backing, declaring himself the rightful Speaker.
His persistence paid off when Meranda resigned on March 3, 2025, restoring him to the speakership.
