The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, was received at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, accompanied by the deputy, among other state officials.

Upon her arrival aboard a Royal Air Force aircraft at 4.18pm, the Prime Minister and Governor Ambode held a brief meeting at the presidential wing of the airport, discussing trade and business-related issues.

In addition to meeting with business leaders, a visit to Salvation Army Headquarters in Lagos, Mrs May is expected to also meet with some victims of modern day slavery.

The prime minister’s visit to Lagos comes barely eight weeks after the French President, Mr Emmanuel Macron, visited the African Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos.

May had earlier arrived in the country and met with  President Muhammadu Buhari at the New Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja.

May’s visit to Nigeria is part of her tour of some Africa countries in an attempt to bolster Britain’s post-Brexit fortunes.

It is her first visit to Africa since she became Prime Minister in 2016.
