Frontline radical human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana has criticized Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), over a recent comment by the later.

Adeboye had said RCCG aims to establish churches within walking distance of every home in Nigeria.

Reacting to that statement, Falana expressed his concerns about the nature of church expansions in Nigeria.

According to him, Adeboye is setting up “business centres” rather than establishing religious institutions.

He said: “Fela sang about religion, and this is very important because I was just reading pastor Adeboye, who has just said that he wants to establish more churches so that everybody can have a church within a working distance. Fela sang about religion and the danger of religiosity, as opposed to spirituality. Now… what Adebayo is talking about are business centres, not religious institutions.”

Falana’s remarks also came after Adeboye claimed divine intervention had stabilised Nigeria’s currency.

Adeboye has been facing criticism on social media after saying his prayers, and that of his followers is the reason the Naira hasn’t been trading at N10,000 for $1.

Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye stated, “If not for the prayers of my followers and myself, the naira could have fallen to ₦10,000 per dollar.”
