  • Wife: My Husband Kidnapped, forced to make statements…
  • Husband: I’m Safe, I’m Not kidnapped.. .

By Abiola Olawale

A dramatic incident has unfolded in Rivers State as George Nwaeke, the immediate past Head of Service (HoS), and his wife, Florence Nwaeke, are currently locked in a heated public dispute and spat.

The dramatic confrontation escalated over allegations of coercion and contentious confessions allegedly made under controversial circumstances.

The saga began when George Nwaeke, who resigned from his position as Head of Service on March 24, 2025, amid escalating tensions in Rivers State, claimed during an interview with the press that he had voluntarily reported to security agencies in Abuja some inappropriate developments in the state

In the interview, he levelled explosive accusations against suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alleging the governor’s involvement in troubling state events.

However, hours later, Florence Nwaeke countered with a desperate plea, asserting that her husband had gone missing and was being forced to make false confessions under duress.

“I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,” she recalled.

She shared her desperate attempts to contact him, saying, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me!”

In a counter-reaction, George stated that contrary to her assertion, he is safe in Abuja where he had gone to voluntarily report himself to security agencies over developments in Rivers State.

In a video released in the early hours of Saturday, the former HoS dismissed his wife’s claim as false, suggesting that she had been misled and given a script to read.

“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself, as well as the troubling events happening in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” he said.
