A brief moment of drama unfolded at the weekend during the installation of First Lady Remi Tinubu as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodu’a, when she interrupted Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, and ordered him to conclude his remarks within five minutes after he broke into a song.

A viral video from the event shows the governor singing enthusiastically during his goodwill message, prompting the First Lady to interject, warning that she would switch off the microphone if the music continued.

“I give you five minutes to conclude your speech. Enough with the music, or I will switch off the microphone,” she said, drawing mixed reactions from the audience.

Adeleke, known for his trademark jovial style, briefly paused before continuing his remarks in a more restrained manner.

The incident has since sparked debates on social media, with some users describing Remi Tinubu’s intervention as abrupt, while others defended it as an effort to maintain decorum during the ceremony.

The installation, held under the auspices of the Oodu’a socio-cultural leadership structure, drew top traditional rulers, political leaders and cultural figures from across Yorubaland.

The First Lady’s new title, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodu’a, is regarded as one of the most prestigious honorary positions within the Yoruba cultural hierarchy.
