It appears the 2027 political landscape in Nigeria has kicked off with a dramatic flair as a viral video has emerged, showing former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and two term minister of Interior, surrounded by hundreds of fervent supporters.
This comes amid Aregbesola’s acrimonious relationship with the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly with his immediate successor, a former governor of Osun State and the incumbent Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The trending footage, which has set social media ablaze, captures Aregbesola in a joyful, dramatic mood, singing passionately amidst 2027 bold political calculations, especially in the South West, where he is seriously up.in arms against APC.
The video reportedly filmed during a recent gathering in Osun State, is coming on the heels of Aregbesola’s publicized expulsion from the APC in January 2025, alongside his Omoluabi Progressives followers, whom the APC accused of anti-party activities.
In the clip, Aregbesola is seen rallying his loyalists, ardent supporters, signing songs that appear to be a direct jab at APC stalwarts, particularly Oyetola with whom Aregbesola has been locked in a bitter political feud since 2019.
This trending video is coming shortly after Aregbesola’s recent strategic meeting with New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso in February 2025, sparking speculations of a potential alliance to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Some political analysts who spoke with the New Diplomat view the video as a calculated move by Aregbesola to galvanize many political forces in the South against the APC ahead 2027. In addition, it is believed that he would want to position his anointed candidate for the governorship seat in Osun State, leveraging his vast popularity in Osun despite his ouster from the APC.
However, in response, the Osun State chapter of APC dismissed Aregbesola’s rally as a “desperate stunt” describing the former governor as a “fading politician.”
Kola Olabisi, the party’s spokesperson in Osun, told reporters, “This is the last gasp of a man whose relevance is slipping away. The APC remains stronger than ever, and we’ll crush any challenge in 2026 and 2027.”
