Nigeria will not be represented at the 2022 World Cup after the Super Eagles failed to defeat the Black Stars of Ghana in a two-legged game.
The super eagles drew both games against their West African opponent.
They played out a 0-0 draw in Kumasi at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium. In the reverse leg played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The visitors took the lead through Thomas Partey. The Arsenal midfielder saw his long range effort squirm under Francis Uzoho to give Ghana the lead.
However, Nigeria drew level, after VAR awarded a penalty for a foul on Ademola Lookman. Captain William Troost-Ekong stepped up to make it 1-1.
With the draw, Ghana qualified on an away goal advantage. The failure to qualify for the World Cup was Super Eagles’ first since 2006.
