Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has imposed a dusk-dawn curfew in some Local Government Areas in Imo West as the men of Nigerian Army and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s Eastern Security Network (ESN) clashed again on Monday, in Okporo, Orlu Local Government of Imo State.

The attack was as a result of the confrontation that happened between the army and ESN operatives, in Orlu Local Government, last Friday, which reportedly led to the death of five people, while scores were injured. Also, about five buildings, which include the Blessed Holy Trinity Sabbath Mission, were destroyed.

It was reported that the soldiers on Monday attacked the operational base of the IPOB’S ESN in an alleged attempt to get back at the IPOB security operative following their clashed last Friday.

However, The New Diplomat cannot ascertain the number of death recorded but many are feared dead and scores have been injured.

Reacting to the clash, Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in some parts of Imo West to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

Uzodinma announced at the press briefing, Monday, that the 6pm to 6am curfew was necessary in order to calm the tension in the affected areas. The affected areas include, Orlu, Pray, Isu, Njaba Nwangele, Oru East, Nkwere, Ideato North and Ideato South local Government.

It would be recalled that the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu launched the ESN in December 2020. Kanu said the sole aim and objective of the security agency was to halt all the criminal activities in Southeast.
