The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara state, Dauda Lawal has been declared as the winner of the governorship election which held in the state on Saturday.

In what may be described as one of the biggest upsets in this season of election in Nigeria, Lawal polled a total votes of 377,726 to unseat the incumbent, Governor Bello Matawalle, who scored 311,976.

Subsequently, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Lawal the governor-elect having scored the highest number of votes.
