Nigerians have refused to renege on plans to go for #EndSARS protest today despite Naira Marley’s cancellation.

The protest by a yet to be identified group is a call for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

It will be recalled that Naira Marley cancelled his planned protest yesterday noting that the protest may hold after a week if there are no significant changes.

In his words, “if changes that have been promised within the police force are not effected within the week, the protest will go on as planned during the following week.”#ENDSARS protest

“We won’t be protesting anymore because there’s a lot of changes being made right now. As a Marlian we will give them a week to see the changes and if there’s no changes we will start a mass protest,” he said.

In respect of this report, Lauretta Onochie, Special Assistant to Buhari on New Media has condemned the voices of Nigerians calling for the end of Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Onochie in her first response recently described the protest as a “coordinated attack by cybercriminals”. And again on Wednesday, she described the request by Nigerians as an “unachievable goal.”

While quoting the statement by the Nigeria Police Force in 2017 and 2020, Onochie insists that target should be place on punishing erring officers and not to scrap the squad.

Some Nigerians against all odds in the ongoing #EndSars protest have taken to Twitter to share trends from the protest in Lagos.
