The authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), located in Awka, Anambra State, have announced its decision to expel a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for her involvement in an assault on a faculty member from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

An official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr Victor I. Modebelu, revealed that the university authorities sanctioned the expulsion of the female student following a recommendation from the Student Disciplinary Committee, which found the student’s actions to be a gross violation of the institution’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).

The acting registrar also announced that the expulsion takes immediate effect, directing Precious to vacate the premises and return any university property in her possession.

The letter reads in part: “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theater and Film Studies, which was found to be gross misconduct and a violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).

“Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect.

“You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”

It would be recalled that the incident went viral after a viral video emerged showing the altercation between the student and the lecturer on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Faculty of Arts.

The altercation was said to have stemmed from a dispute over the interruption of a video recording the student was making, reportedly for TikTok.

According to multiple reports, the incident began when the student was recording a dance video in a faculty corridor. Dr. Okoye, requiring a space to pass through the corridor, tapped the student on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me,” to make way for himself.

This action was said to have angered the student and triggered a heated reaction from the student, who became visibly upset and took to violent action.
