The Governing Council of the University of Jos has approved the appointment of Prof. Sebastian Maimako as the new Vice-Chancellor for the University.

Maimako is the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences of the University.

In a statement issued in Jos and signed by Abdullahi Abdullahi, the institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar, Information and Publications, said the new VC’s choice followed recommendation by the Selection Board at its Special Meeting held on Friday 22nd April, 2016.

His appointment which is for a single term of five years takes effect from 23rd June, 2016.

A Professor of Accounting and Finance, Sebastian Maimako has held several administrative positions in the University including Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Head, Acting Head, Department of Management Sciences, all in the University of Jos.

A 1987 graduate of Management Studies from the University of Jos, Professor Maimako, 54, took up appointment with University of Jos in 1989 as a Graduate Assistant. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2010 and appointed Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences on 1st April, 2015. Professor Maimako obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1992 and bagged a PhD Degree in Management in 2006.

He was chosen among 18 other contestants within and outside the institution who vied for the position./
