The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Akwa Ibom State Command, has disclosed that the alleged killer of a job seeker, Miss Inibong Umoren would be prosecuted soon.
Reacting to speculations that the alleged killer of Umoren, Uduak Akpan has been transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS), the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Odiko Macdon, debunked the rumours, saying that Akpan’s case file was at the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, with the suspect remanded in the State Correctional centre.
The New Diplomat had reported that Umoren, a graduate of Philosophy, went missing while attending a job interview in Akwa Ibom. The reports of the missing lady trended and #FindHinyUmoren was subsequently created for the purpose of calling out to security agencies to find the missing young lady.
Days after, reports of the death of Umoren came out and generated a barrage of reactions from Nigerians, who called for justice and that the perpetrators of the criminal act be brought to book.
Also, Macdon, in a statement had confirmed that the police arrested 20-year-old Akpan, who was allegedly linked with the death of Umoren. According to the statement, Akpan allegedly lured Umoren to his residence under the pretext of offering her a job but raped, killed and buried the young graduate in a shallow grave.
Similarly, Akpan in his confession said that he used a stabilizer and pressing iron to hit Umoren in self defense as the late victim had turned violent after allegedly giving her consent for sex to secure a non-existing job.
Meanwhile, the PPRO, while addressing a press conference on Monday disclosed that the command has gathered enough evidence to prosecute Akpan, adding that his trial would commence soon.
According to Macdon, the command is in possession of the autopsy result of the deceased.
Speaking further, the PPRO also explained that General Overseer of a church, Ukachukwu Christopher, who allegedly beat his wife to death and buried her in a shallow grave and a soldier who allegedly killed a driver that gave him a lift from Rivers to Akwa Ibom States, have all been remanded in prison custody and would be arraigned in court soon.
In his words, “Autopsy on the corpse of Inibong Umoren has been conducted. The result is out. We now have what it takes to nail Frank. It was very painful for people to say the police didn’t do a nice job.
“We worked with the DPP to get those people remanded in the Nigeria Correctional Service even before the court resumed. They will be arraigned. We have sent the case files of Uduak Frank, the soldier who murdered one Enobong Jimmy, and the church founder, Ukachukwu Christopher, who beat his wife to death to DPP and we are waiting for them.
“Let me assure you that the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all those cases are prosecuted logically because we have carried out the autopsies and have the result. We have the suspects in custody, we have the legal teams ready, and we have a robust relationship with the justice department because we are all ministers in the temple of justice,” he added.
