From Segun Amure, (The New Diplomat’s Abuja Bureau)

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu (Bobi Wine) on Friday opposed President Yoweri Museveni early lead in the just concluded election.

An earlier announcement made by the country’s electoral commission projects the incumbent President, Museveni, of the National Resistance Movement party (NRP) has so far received 1.5 million votes while, Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Party 7 (NUP) has polled 647,000 votes so far.

“With 13.6% of votes counted, Museveni had won 1,536,205 votes, or 65.0%, while main opposition candidate Bobi Wine had 647,146 (27.4%), the commission said.”

Regretably, Kyagulanyi who lamented the marked irregularities in the election said, “We secured a comfortable victory,” Bobi Wine told reporters in Kampala, the capital. “I am very confident that we defeated the dictator by far”

“The people of Uganda voted massively for change of leadership from a dictatorship to a democratic government. But Mr. Museveni is trying to paint a picture that he is in the lead. What a joke!” he added.

Assuredly, he reiterated his decision to detail marked irregularities of the ruling party once the internet was restored.

On irregularities and violence accusation, an election commission official responded to Kyagulanyi said, “Let him show the country in what manner, in what form the results are rigged.”

Bobi Wine, a singer-turned-lawmaker who has galvanized young Ugandans with calls for political change, told a news conference on Friday he had filmed proof of fraud during voting and that he wanted a peaceful outcome to the vote.

He had said in a tweet earlier in the day that he was confident of victory despite “widespread fraud and violence’’.
