A fly stole the show at the U.S Vice Presidential candidates’ debate, Wednesday, notwithstanding a number of hot topics debated on the night.
The many issues raised were no match for the night’s most talked-about intruder– a fly, causing a comical relief after the much civil debate.
The social distancing protocols in place in the hall and plexiglass were unable to stop the fly as it briefly buzzed around the stage before landing and staying on Vice President Mike Pence’s head.
The incident went unmentioned onstage, with the Republican vice president and Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris continuing to focus on the discussion of systemic racism in the justice system.
But as the insect stayed on Pence’s white hair, the social media memes were outpouring. It easily created more buzz than nearly anything else discussed on the night.
Pence, despite shaking his head with some body movement in response to Harris’ answers, he didn’t notice the fly’s arrival and the fly was unperturbed. The fly later flew away on its own.
Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden immediately attempted to seize the moment, tweeting a photo of himself holding a fly swatter with the caption: “Pitch in $5 to help this campaign fly.” He was throwing political jabs at Donald Trump’s campaign.
Moments later, he tweeted again, this time highlighting “Flywillvote.com,” which took users to a website set up for his campaign to help supporters make plans to vote.
- Read some reactions:
Good morning
It wasn't even close.
Mike Pence bulldozed her ass into the ground.
The silver fox owned the stage.
Even the fly chose Pence. 😂😂

Horrible when you’re going about your business and some vile, parasitic pest attaches itself to you.
You have to feel for the fly. pic.twitter.com/6VW8EOlY4U

That fly on Pence's hair was a metaphor for a dead campaign. Biden should bring a fly swatter to the next debate, although if a fly ever landed on trump's hair, it would absolutely die on the spot from the chemical exposure.
