Two former commissioners in the immediate part administration in Kogi State have led over three thousand others to boost the chances of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kogi State in next year’s election as they dumped the opposition PDP.
They were received into the APC on Thursday at the party’s Kogi West zonal rally by the Zonal Chairman, Hon Ropo Asagun and other party leaders and stalwarts.
The commissioners were those in charge of Water Resources and Agriculture respectively, Hon Tunji Osanusi and Aborinwa Femi.
In his address, Hon Asagun said the defection was an indication that APC was indicative of the general acceptability of the party in Kogi West, and promised that the party would not discriminate the new members.
He said the party respects it’s members according to the efforts put into its policies and programmes for the well-being of the generality of the people, and urged them to redouble their efforts in canvassing votes for the party.
On his part, the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole cautioned electorate in the state against the sale of their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
Rt. Hon Kolawole then expressed optimism about the APC’s chances in next year’s polls, stating that it would win all the elections beginning from the presidential polls in view of the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari, which has endeared him to the electorat.
He said; “In the last three and half years, President Buhari and his Vice have done a lot for the country. In fact what they have achieved is beyond what the PDP could do for Nigerians in sixteen years”, he said.
He urged the people of Kogi West to vote for Senator Smart Adeyemi whom he described as a lawmaker that has the interest of his people at heart, saying his antecedents while in the Senate would spur the people to vote for him.
Also speaking, a former Managing Director of Daily Trust newspaper, Ishaq Ajibola maintained that Yagba people have really benefited immensely from Governor Yahaya Bello in the areas of political appointments and execution of projects.
He enjoined the people of the district to support and vote for all the candidates of the APC in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
2. PDP corruption, sleaze; why Ajaokuta is not working today – Sen Smart Adeyemi
The multi-billion dollar steel complex in Kogi State is yet to realise its full potential to provide the people with employment and the world with requisite steel because of the corrupt nature with which it was sold off by the PDP administration while Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was Nigeria’s Vice President and Chairman of Bureau for Public Enterprises, BPE.
Candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC for Kogi West Senatorial District for 2019 general election, Sen Smart Adeyemi made the revelation on Thursday in Kabba during the flag off of the party’s campaign rally.
He said the promise by Alhaji Atiku of intentions to sell off several national assets including the Steel company if elected was an indication that the party’s agenda has not changed and they have not learnt their lessons from the negative impact their corruption tainted privatisation policy has had on the country and its economy.
Sen Adeyemi then thanked the APC – led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for pumping $1billion from Excess Crude Account (ECA) into the completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL).
He said the decision has shown that the President is passionate about the country’s economy and potential of the steel complex and the completion of the Obajana – Kabba road project  as policies that contribute to both the micro and macroeconomics of Nigeria to safeguard the future of the next generations.
“There is no doubt President Muhammadu Buhari is a man of integrity who is committed to ensuring that the long abandoned Ajaokuta Steel Company works for the people of the state and the country because of the huge economic potential it has. The completion of Obajana – Kabba road and Abuja – Lokoja – Ilorin road project is no doubt one of the noblest of projects by the administratration. We therefore have no choice than to support the President and follow him to the next level.”
He further urged the people of Kogi west to back the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello for showing the political will to bring development to all parts of Kogi State including the senatorial district.
He mentioned some projects and key appointments made in the present administration in the state, including the Omi – Dam Project, the Kogi Green Farm, appointment of the SSG, commissioners, among other aides, as a demonstration of the love Governor Bello has for the area.
The APC candidate then called on the people to end the bad press about the area on regular basis by voting out thugs and brigands currently representing them for credible and refined individuals in the legislature.
