Two people have been feared dead at Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State as violence marred the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in many parts of the state.

The Lagos State chapter of APC conducted its primaries on Saturday, to elect their flag bearers for the Chairmanship and councillorship posts across the 20 LGAs and the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) respectively.

However, according to reports, the primary election in Surulere LGA was characterized by violent attacks, suspectedly perpetrated by thugs.

The primary election stated at 9am as scheduled in Surulere, however during the electioneering process, some suspected cultists and thugs reportedly disrupted the voting and took control of all the nine wards in the local government.

According to reports, the thugs chased away eligible voters from the polling units, in a bid to hijack the voting process. The thugs were said to have stormed the local government with various sophisticated weapons ranging from cutlasses to guns, among others.

According to eye witness accounts, the armed thugs were allegedly led by a Chieftain of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Sunday Aransiola who ordered all voters present to vacate the premises.

Parts of the state where violence was reported include Iyana Ipaja, Alimosho, Alakuko, Oshodi, Egbeda, Ikorodu among others as thugs reportedly made attempts to have their way.

However, the Lagos State police command or appropriate authorities from the APC were yet to react to the incident as of press time.
