United States President Donald Trump has again stirred controversy after he reportedly suggested that he is serious about pursuing a third term in office.

In a phone call with NBC News, Trump was quoted as saying: “I’m not joking,” when asked to clarify a remark on seeking another term, adding: “There are methods which you could do it.”

It would be recalled that the US President has a history of suggesting he might serve more than two terms, but Sunday’s remarks were reportedly the most concrete in terms of referring to plans to achieve the goal.

The announcement has reignited debates over constitutional limits, as the 22nd Amendment explicitly restricts a president to two terms, consecutive or otherwise.

He added: “A lot of people want me to do it. But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

Trump, who previously served from 2017 to 2021 and returned to the White House in 2025, hinted at challenging the status quo, claiming his supporters “deserve more time.”
