  • Passes Vote Of Confidence On Buhari, Oshiomhole, Emerhor, Ogodo, Others

By John Oghojafor

As the collection of expression of interest and nomination forms by aspirants for various political offices on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues nationwide, the O’tega Emerhor faction of the party in Delta Central has adopted the Direct mode of primary as recently announced by the National Executive Committee of APC just as new members of the party have been enjoined to participate in the ongoing membership registration exercise.

Rising from a meeting of the Chief Edewor Akpedafe-led Delta Central APC exco, Local Government and Ward executives, including leaders and elders in Ughelli Saturday, the party unanimously adopted direct primary as it accepted mode of electing its candidates in the forthcoming general election.

It would be recalled that the national exco of the party led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole announced the adoption of direct primary as its choice of selecting the party candidates across the country ostensibly to prevent corruption that had bedeviled the use of indirect primary over the years.  However, this has caused a division among some APC governors and some stakeholders in some states who preferred the indirect method as against the direct approach.

Only Friday at Asaba, Delta State capital, the Ogboru/Omo-Agege faction of the APC led by Prophet Jones Erue, adopted the indirect approach, a situation which led to some aspirants of the party such as Prof. Pat Utomi and others staging a walk out of the ceremony.

But while addressing the Delta Central executives of the party, local government and ward executives, leaders and elders of the party of the Chief Cyril Ogodo-led faction of the party, Chief Edewor Akpedafe explained that the national executive of the party was not going back on the directive for the party to adopt direct primary in all its political offices, adding that in line with that directive, primaries to all political offices in Delta Central will be conducted directly.

He put the question to vote before the members gathered and there was a unanimous adoption of the direct option for the conduct of primary election in Delta Central and the State in general.

Akpedafe also disclosed that in the coming days, the Exco and stakeholders of the party will meet to play host to a new Delta Central Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the APC, pointing out that the race was becoming more interesting especially with the introduction of the direct primary which will offer aspirants the opportunity to showcase their popularity among the electorate before the main election.

High point of the occasion was the vote of confidence moved by Olorogun Jimiyerin for President Buhari, Comrade Oshiomhole, Olorogun Emerhor, Chief Cyril Ogodo and Chief Akpedafe.  The motion which was seconded by Barr. Pippah was also to express Delta Central support for President Buhari’s second term bid.

In same vein, Chief Sam Kohwo moved a vote of thanks in honour of Engr. Dr. Ajogbe, the Executive Director of Project (EDP), NDDC for his contribution to the infrastructural development of Delta Central and the state in general.

Present at the occasion were Chief Cyril Ogodo, Chief Edewor Akpedafe, Chief Ominimini, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, Barr. Pippah, Chief Sam Kohwo, Chief Philip Eyagomare, among others.
