News reaching The New Diplomat a while ago confirmed that the father of  ex-militant   leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND ) and frontline Niger Delta Militant, Mr Owizide Government Ekpemupolo alias Tomplolo, has died.  .

His father Thomas Ekpemupolo who was an octogenarian died after a brief illness in Warri, Delta State. According to a source close to the family, the elder Ekpemupolo has been sick for a long time , a development that made him go blind at some point.  Another source  within the family told The New Diplomat that Tompolo’s father died as a result of complications arising from a recent surgery he undertook on his legs.

Said an insider: ‘’ He has been sick for long time. He was about 82 years. About a month ago, he had his leg amputated because of illness. So this morning, there were complications arising from that amputation and he was rushed to Lily clinic in Warri, Delta State where he gave up the ghost. He was a great man, a loving father and a community leader. He would be greatly missed.’’
