Chief Tom Amioku, a former Commissioner representing Delta state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and two-time Commissioner in Delta State, is dead. He died at the age of 74. Some however said he was in his 70s but may not be able to put an accurate finger to his actual age.

Chief Amioku, who until his death was an astute politician, seasoned administrator, talented peace-broker and community leader was generally regarded as a calm, unassuming and likable political leader in Delta State.

Chief Amioku died on Saturday after a protracted illness from an undisclosed sickness. A family member who confirmed his death Saturday evening, said that Amioku, a former Commissioner for Works in Delta, has been down for a while and out of circulation as a result of ill-health.

Born in 1946 in  Okpe LGA of  present day Delta state, Chief Amioku attended University of Lagos, University of Benin and Temple University, Philadelphia, United States where he earned BSc, MBA and MEd degrees in various disciplines including Business Administration, Education, etc.

Prior to his journey into politics, Chief Amioku worked variously as Manager responsible for Strategic Planning at the Delta Steel Company, Ovwian- Aladja, Principal Consultant at Tosket Nigeria Limited, etc.

Between 1999-2007, late Chief Amioku served variously as Commissioner and member of the Delta state executive Council responsible for the following ministries: Power and Energy, Special Duties and Works.

Many  described Chief Amioku as diligent community leader in Okpe , seasoned public administrator, peace-loving politician with a calm mien and an unassuming disposition.  A good family man, Chief Amioku who was happily married with children and grand children would be greatly missed by many especially his immediate family members, political allies, friends and admirers alike.
