The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has described the Late Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa as an astute politician, businessman and industrialist.

In a condolence letter, signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ola Awoniyi, on Tuesday, Lawan said that the demise of the late politician was a huge loss to the country.

His words, “My condolences to the family of Alhaji Bashir Tofa and to the Government and people of Kano State.

“Alhaji Tofa left his imprints as an astute politician, businessman and industrialist.

“His death is a great loss not just to the people of Kano State but to the entire country.”
The Senate President prayed Allah to forgive Tofa’s sins, accept his soul in Aljannah firdau and console those that he left behind.

The New Diplomat had reported how the ex-presidential candidate, died on Monday At the age of 74. The erudite politician, who contested in the June 12, 1993 elections, under the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention, NRC, was said to have passed away after a brief illness.

Tofa contested against the Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO) of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the election.

The election was however annulled by the former Nigeria military president, Ibrahim Babangida.

Born on 20 June 1947, Tofa was also a businessman of note. He was chairman of International Petro-Energy Company, IPEC, and Abba Othman and Sons Ltd.
