President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to depart Abuja on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, for Dakar, Senegal, to attend the inauguration of Senegal’s President-elect, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The President’s trip is said to be on the invitation of the Republic of Senegal, says reports.

Tinubu, who is the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will reportedly join other regional leaders to witness the inauguration at the Diamniadio Exhibition Centre on Tuesday.

He would be accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, among other senior government officials.

The President is billed to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the inauguration.

The New Diplomat reports that Senegal’s Constitutional Council had on Friday confirmed the presidential election victory of Faye, paving the way for his inauguration as the country’s fifth president and the youngest democratically elected president in Africa.

The top court validated the provisional results announced on Wednesday based on vote tallies from 100 percent of polling stations.

Faye won more than 54% of votes in last Sunday’s delayed presidential poll, with ruling coalition candidate Amadou Ba taking over 35%.
