​President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally sent a request to the Nigerian Senate, urging the confirmation of the newly appointed Service Chiefs.

This move came after a sweeping military reshuffle said to be aimed at fortifying the nation’s security architecture.

​The request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The letter was also read by Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday. The Senate President said the nominees presented for confirmation are ​Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede (replacing General Christopher Musa); ​Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major-General Waidi Shaibu (replacing Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede); ​Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke (replacing AVM H.B. Abubakar); and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral I. Abbas (replacing Rear Admiral E. A. Ogalla).

After reading the letter, Akpabio referred the confirmation request to the committee of the whole for screening and confirmation of the nominees, next week.
