President Bola Tinubu on Monday, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving the sanctity of Nigeria’s judiciary, stressing its role as a vital pillar of democracy.
He made this statement during the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking during the ceremony, Tinubu lauded the judiciary for what he called “its critical role in maintaining balance in Nigeria’s democratic governance.”
This was also contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President was quoted as saying: “The judiciary is an important pillar constituting the tripod that holds our constitutional democracy.
“Indeed, the Nigerian judiciary, at various times in history, has proven to be the moderating force ensuring everyone remains in check.”
Tinubu also reiterated that his administration would continue to support the judiciary, stating: “As leaders, we must preserve the sanctity and independence of our judicial institutions. They must remain the bulwark for justice and fairness in our society.”
